A FEW FIRSTS:

This month was a lot of milestones and firsts for baby girl. And as always our little girl goes with the flow. She was so ready to start eating solids that she was literally trying to grab food out of my hands and would chew when she watched us eat. She’s loved all the foods she’s tried, but sweet potatoes seem to be a favorite (just like mommy!) I could hardly believe what I was hearing just a few days before Mother’s day when she started to say mama. We took her to her first swim class and she loved it. No cries at all…she is a water baby for sure. She’ll be out surfing with daddy in no time.

We went on our first trip and I’ll have to admit I was a little anxious even though she always does so good when we’re out and about. She loved going on the boat and people watching as we walked around town. Her little gummy smile is contagious and has strangers waving as they walk by. We rented a boat and she actually fell asleep for the majority of our time on the water. It must have been the rocking! Our first night was a little hard for her to adjust so we were up every few hours with her popping in the pacifier. (something we’re not used to with this good sleeper, so we’ll take it.) After that night she slept as long as she does back home. She sits up on her own with no assistance and love watching her be more independent. I put a basket of toys in front of her and she grabs one out, talks about it and moves onto the next. It’s so amazing to see her personality and conversations with her grow!

We joined a stroller strides group and I love it. She gets to be out and enjoy the fresh air while mama gets some exercise. We also signed up for a mommy and me class which has been so fun to watch her interact and talk with the other babies her age.

Of course, this month flew by. It was month I didn’t want to come (half a year) because my baby doesn’t feel like a baby anymore. I know some people say that’s crazy but any new mom will agree and say the same thing.

FAVORITE THINGS:

This month we went on a trip so a few of these were necessities but we’ll continue to use throughout the rest of the summer. And as always, I generally get gender neutral options so they can be used for our next baby, too.

Baby Bjorn Mini - We’ve been using this for a few months now and love it. It the beginning she was too small for it, which is why the Solly wrap worked better. But now I stick her in this when we’re going to be out and the stroller isn’t necessary. It’s great for traveling when you need both hands. We brought it with us to Catalina and it made everything SO easy since we didn’t bring the stroller. We were doing a lot of walking and hiking around. Since she’s very observant and wants to see everything, I face her out. But when I know she’s getting tired I’ll turn her to face me and she falls right to sleep. We’ll be using this up until she hits the 25 pound mark.

Nested Bean - We transitioned her out of the Merlin’s Magic sleep suit once she started rolling over. Although, the first week was rough (she went from sleeping 10 hours to waking up every few hours wanting to be soothed) but this sleep sack helped. I think she was so used to being cuddled with the Merlin that she felt less secure without it. The weighted egg on the chest is supposed to resemble the touch of a hand. She’s now adjusted and back to sleeping 10-12 hours in her crib and I think this has a lot to do with it.

Pop up tent - This was so awesome to easily pop up to use while on vacation by the pool. With UPF 50+ she was able to lay inside it without getting sunburned and window cut outs for a breeze. We will be using this all summer by the pool and at the beach.

Inflatable canopy float - Another must-have we will use all summer at the pool. This has a canopy that covers her little arms from getting sunburned. (She also wears a rashguard, too.) As with any water related item, I never took my eyes off her in this.

Sunglasses - These had such great reviews and has the extra attachment so it stays on their head. She actually wore them the whole time on our trip and didn’t try to pull them off.

Bib/Apron - Since she has started eating, this covers her completely so she doesn’t get food all over her clothes. And the food wipes off so easily and dries quickly after being cleaned, too.

OUR LIFE:

It can be summed up as so much joy! This girl lights up our world and couldn’t imagine life any other way now. We finally have consistent routines with mornings, naps and bedtimes and it’s some of my favorite moments. The simple things each day bring so much happiness with our baby girl!

A Few Firsts:

We celebrated Easter just a few days after she turned 5 months. I snapped a photo which is easily one of our favorite pictures of her, EVER. You can just see the joy beaming through those eyes and that little smile. She started to sit up and have really good head control so we got her an activity center/jumper and she loves playing in it. She loves the animals, especially petting the cat. We’re trying to work on being gentle but she can’t really contain the happiness when she pets him and accidentally pulls out some fur. He sleeps outside of her room during naps and while I’m feeding her, he’s laying right by my feet - he really loves being around her (both the animals do!)

She moved into her room like a champ and we have been so thankful to have restful sleep. I think she sleeps so much better without hearing us toss and turn throughout the night. Of course, mommy cried!

We take walks along the beach with Ollie and it’s so fun watching him play with dogs and in the water. Todd walked away and he wouldn’t leave our side, he just hung out with us - he’s been our protector since we brought her home.

We went to the zoo with our cousins (her second time going) and she loves looking at the trees and flowers. We went in the butterfly garden and the butterflies must have liked her (or the hat) because they kept landing on her head.

FAVORITE THINGS:

Bath Seat - Once she was able to comfortably sit up we transitioned her to this bath. I like the extra support it has in the tub. She loves bath time and playing with her toys. (I feel like it goes without saying, but there is a warning to never leave your child unattended in it.)

Baby Joy Walker - Once she started to get comfortable with her activity center and her legs were stronger we got her this. And she loves the freedom to be able to move around. Although, she’s used to going backwards and starting to get the hang of moving forward.

Baby Paper - She has always loved toys that make this crunchy noise so I figured she would love it and oh man she does! It keeps her occupied and she doesn’t seem to get bored with it.

Snooze Shade - I heard from several people how great this cover was and it really is! It’s universal so it can fit on most car seats or strollers. It’s well ventilated but keeps it dark when naps have to be on the go. She loves it being dark!

OUR LIFE:

It can be summed up as being present. We want to soak up each moment with you and not miss a moment. Time is flying by way too fast. I’m working on putting down the phone (except during work hours - while she naps.) I noticed while eating breakfast scrolling through instagram that she was looking at me and smiling while she played. Mom guilt sank in and I don’t want her to always remember me looking down at my phone.

3 Reasons Why I'm A Wedding Photographer

3 Reasons Why I'm A Wedding Photographer

Over the years, I’ve had a lot of people ask how I became a photographer. So I thought I would share with you a little bit about the why and the heart behind my business.

I know it may sound cliche but I always have been fascinated with photography. There was a day in particular that I remember, while my brother and sister played volleyball in the backyard, there I was, with my disposable camera photographing insects, birds and my dog. Of course the photos weren’t totally in focus but I enjoyed it! We took the film to be developed and I wrote the date on the back of the photo (a habit I learned from my mom’s albums.) It’s so funny because I recently stumbled on a box of old photos and found those pictures buried. And now 23 years later, here I am camera-in-hand, only this time with a better camera and photographing people now!

In high school, I signed up for film photography as my elective class. My mom took me to a local camera store and bought me my first camera body (which I still have today.) My favorite part of the class was going into the darkroom to develop my photos and watch the image slowly appear right in front of me. After high school graduation I decided to pursue another love of mine, interior design. I went to the Interior Design Institute for a few years and loved it. It was during that time that my boyfriend (now hubby) of almost five years proposed up in Big Bear. And so began the world of wedding planning.

One of the most important things to me was finding a photographer. I knew how much we would cherish these photos and I pictured our walls filled with wedding photos. We were on a budget, but a large portion of our budget would go to photography. And I was happy knowing that after the flowers are wilted, the cake was eaten and the dress was boxed up…that we would have these sweet memories from our day, forever. It was during my search for a wedding photographer that I caught myself daydreaming what it’d be like to be a wedding photographer. After our wedding, I was still browsing wedding blogs and my husband thought I was crazy. I started online photography courses and taking pictures of friends and family. While I was working a retail job, Todd got a raise. He encouraged me to pursue my dreams of photography and here we are almost four years later. So here are the top 3 reasons why I LOVE being a wedding photographer.

1. Preserving love stories for generations

Without a doubt this is the number one reason why I love being a photographer. To capture the moments from the day, so you never forget. Like the look your mom gives you as her little girl slips into her wedding dress. Your dad’s reaction when he sees you for the first time seconds before walking you down the aisle. When your flower girl twirls in her dress. The moment your eyes meet as you walk down the aisle towards your future. It’s these moments that you want to remember and freeze them in time. It’s the beginning of your legacy that will live on for generations.

2. I love weddings

I used to watch the movie Wedding Planner with Jennifer Lopez on repeat. There’s just something about the celebration that will never get old to me. I find tremendous joy watching other’s experience happiness. Every wedding is unique and seeing the relationship you have with each other and your family is an honor to be a part of.

3. I'm a hopeless romantic

I grew up watching Disney movies, one of my favorites being Beauty and the Beast. Love is a gift and I love celebrating it. I’m sentimental, so I’ve kept love notes Todd wrote me when were dating. Or kept straw wrappers he shaped into a heart. Or the photo booth strips we take every year at the fair.

I’ll end on this note, thank you to our clients from the bottom of our hearts. I get goosebumps thinking about how lucky we are to be a part of your journey, but most of all, your friendship. From the time you’re engaged to growing bellies...thank you for welcoming us into your lives and letting us celebrate with you through it all.

2016 Year in Review

2016 Year in Review

As the year comes to an end, I can't help but reflect on how grateful I am for each and every couple and their families who welcome us happily to their wedding day.

It's been a year of growth as I moved into an office in Tustin with a wedding coordinator (I'll share some images soon!) I couldn't be more thrilled and full of joy to have a "job" I love!
