Preparing for your session

Mama, I just want to encourage you and remind you that you have absolutely nothing to stress over.

These details below were specifically created to help walk you through your custom photography experience leading up to your session with little to stress or think about - allowing you to enjoy this time together!
Providing my clients with timeless portraits that can be cherished for generations is my goal. My approach is more about capturing the connection between baby and parents and most important the session is led by baby.

For mama

We have plenty of designer dresses for you to choose from that will make you feel confident and beautiful during your newborn session. I know how difficult it can be to find clothes days after giving birth, which is why we have options that are postpartum friendly and very flattering from XS-3XL.

For Dad

I will be there to help with any outfit selection during your newborn session so that you will look great together.

If Dad prefers to bring his own shirt, keep in mind that outfits will look the most cohesive on camera when the color palettes coordinate, but don’t necessarily “match.”

Most guys will wear shades of cream, grey or light blue in a button up, sweater or henley paired with khakis, chinos or light grey pants. We do ask that you remove your shoes in the studios for the safety of the little ones who crawl on our floor. If you do not want to be barefoot in studio then dress socks or bright white socks work, too. Avoid prints or stripes because it doesn’t always photograph well.

Quick tip: Avoid distractions - Leave your wallet, phone and keys in her purse or in the studio. We don’t want to photoshop your pockets later!

Hair and Makeup

Professional hair and makeup looks amazing and removes the stress of getting ready on your own. Whether it’s lash extensions or styled/curled hair, our hair and makeup artists will give you an extra boost of confidence in front of the camera and it always photographs beautifully. It’s included in each signature session with Ambre Williams Photography. Just show up and be pampered and taken care of!

Whether you are desiring a look that is completely natural, or a bit fancier than your usual, our artists know what they are doing. Many of my clients wear minimal makeup in their day to day, and are always incredibly pleased with their decision to trust a professional for their session day. Feel free to bring any photos for inspiration you want to show her!

  • Full Belly and Sleepy

Keep baby awake if possible 1-2 hours before the session so they are nice and sleepy when you arrive. Bath time usually helps keep them awake, too! Of course babies are unpredictable so it’s fine if they are awake during the session. Be prepared to feed baby upon arrival after swaddled and extra milk/formula if not breastfeeding during the session. Again, baby may have different plans - but we will roll with it! Remember to bring a bottle or be prepared to breastfeed as baby will take a lot of feeding breaks. Bring a pacifier just in case even if baby hasn't used it yet.

  • Diaper & Swaddle

Have baby in a clean diaper and onesie. We will get baby undressed wearing only a diaper and wrapped in neutral swaddles/blankets we have in studio. We can start with a neutral swaddle to begin with and if you have something you would like we can do that afterwards. If you want baby photographed in clothing we will do this last to avoid clothing going over their head which irritates them especially during diaper changes.

The thermostat will be set around 72-75 degrees since babies are most comfortable and sleepy in warmer temperatures.

When to expect your images?

During your design appointment (2-3 weeks after the session) we will review your images
and help you choose what you would like to do with your portraits.
